I don’t think the writer drop the ball, I think the studio/director got lazy after all, it is literally their job to adapt the manga and make it good.

The break in immersion is so bad that logic starts to kick in.īasically, everything that made season 1 good and fun is missing in season 2. Its like your parents somehow magically walk in on you and your partner’s sexy time to ask if you want some cookies and milk. The enemies mostly just stand there they’re very reactionary. the constant inappropriate quirk/gimmick bs keeps breaking me out of immersion. There was a sense of urgency when the situation calls for it.

Immersive in the sense that I’m going with the flow, despite exposition here and there. I liked Season 1, it was far more immersive than Season 2. What made some of them quirky and lovable becomes the same thing that makes them irritating. Tamaki somehow slip out of her cloths or the captain can’t pull the trigger. For me, it’s the fact that each character far far overplayed it’s gimmick especially at crucial moments. It's much easier to get people interested in something if they know you're open to discussion.
#READ FIRE FORCE SHONEN JUMP SERIES#
I'm glad that I returned to Fire Force, and that it got an amazing anime studio because it 100% deserves it, but I also would ask not to dismiss people's criticisms of the series and at least try to understand where they might be coming from. Skip to the manga's current arc and, honestly, this arc has some of the biggest highlights of the entire series and is doing something I've never seen done before in any story material I've consumed. The main cast gets some much-needed development, Ōkubo's skill for creating interesting villains kicks in and the story gets that hook it was missing. Whenever I can, I try to tell people that if you didn't like season 1, season 2 is more interesting and the future seasons would be even better.

When Fire Force introduced the White Clad, it was only upwards from there. I like to skip chapters from an ongoing manga I dropped to see if it can hook me again (and then reread from the beginning) because some stories do get better eventually. So you might be wondering why I'm still browsing its subreddit, and reading and looking forward to Fire Force? Short answer: it got better. People hated Fire Force not only because of Tamaki but because in their eyes Fire Force received an amazing studio and an amazing production for such a mediocre series when other already loved titles like Black Clover (initially), 7 Deadly Sins, Berserk, and * insert favourite anime here * had poor adaptations. Some people aren't going to invest in a series that's just "okay" and takes off late with the only interesting thing being its fight scenes and animation for the manga, the art was the clear highlight. Tamaki's role in the plot was an obnoxious distraction. The story and the characters weren't interesting enough in comparison to other manga and anime. All of the main characters have similar comedic delivery (the deadpan kind). Similarly, the anime was dropped by many in its first season. I found out that the series survived the ax but had no one translating it until some months or weeks later.įire Force was mediocre. By the time the Company 5 Arc concluded, Mangastream lost interest and stopped translating the series. Fans at the time began to worry: was it getting axed? The whiplash from the sudden pacing and the lack of a perceived hook threw some fans off from the series. That was when Hibana was first introduced.

It didn't take long before the pacing of the series skyrocketed. The gags surrounding Tamaki were self-aware, but I also found them annoying despite understanding the reason for its existence. Having read Ohkubo's work before, I was well aware of his penchant for creating one character solely for fan service, and that was Tamaki. While reading the first few chapters with Soul Eater in the back of my mind, I couldn't help but think that the story didn't yet have a compelling hook to keep me interested. The premise wasn't interesting but the art was great and Shinra had an interesting and relatable gimmick. Knowing it was from Ōkubo who created Soul Eater made me more interested. I first read Fire Force when scanlator Mangastream first took up the title (it was known as Fire Brigade at the time * cue title card*).
